Harvesting bananas in Maui...chopping the bunch of bananas down, chopping up the stalk,
you might as well cut the whole trunk down, as it won't produce any more fruit, and will just rot and wither away. Chop up the juicy trunk and arrange it around the base to help fertilize the next crop and to keep the weeds down. A suggestion though… once you have cut the bunches of bananas off, take some and put them in a brown paper or box, then they will ripen more quickly, that way they are not all ripening at once. I love green banana as they help other fruit ripen the same way. An avocado and green banana will both ripen quickly in the paper bag.
