Rift

Oil on canvas 18x24

SOLD

Rolling hills and misty mountains unfold as cool breezes carry the scent of eucalyptus throughout Upcountry Maui. Located on the high elevations around Haleakala. The broad Haleakala shield volcano overshadows the eastern part of the island of Maui. Its summit is irregular because of the many cinder cones that have erupted along the southwestern rift zone, which extends from the coast to the summit. The rocky lava flow originated from Haleakala. A rift is a feature of some volcanoes, especially the shield volcanies of Hawaii, in which a linear series of fissures in the volcanic edifice allows lava to be erupted from the volcano's flank instead of from its summit
